London’s expensive job! Indian woman says – I can’t afford to go to the office every day

Taruna says that if she has to sit on video calls even after going to the office, why not just work from home? She also questioned why earlier employees received benefits like free lunches, bonuses, and travel allowances, while today’s generation is limited to cold pizza slices and work-beer.

Taruna Vinayakiya, an Indian woman living in London, made a post about working from the office, clearly stating that she won’t go to the office five days a week—or even four. She argues that in London’s expensive lifestyle, making ends meet is already tough, and she can’t afford to waste half her salary on commuting.

The 25-year-old, who works as a Global Influencer Strategy Manager at LEGO, expressed her frustration on LinkedIn. She shared that despite having a good job, she struggles to pay bills every month, and buying a house remains a distant dream.

If we have to sit on video calls anyway, why work from the office?

Taruna reiterated that if going to the office still means sitting on video calls, why not work from home instead? She also raised the point that previous generations of employees enjoyed perks like free lunches, bonuses, and travel benefits, whereas today’s workforce is stuck with cold pizza slices and work-beer.

Her statement has gone viral on social media, with over 6,000 people reacting to it so far. Many agree with her views, while others see it as a call for change in office culture.

Let’s take a look at the reactions to Taruna’s post on social media.

Most people seem to support Taruna’s stance, though some have pointed out the constraints companies face. A user named Matt responded, writing, “At 50 years old, I completely agree with everything you’ve said. No matter our age, we’re being financially squeezed every day. My train fare is now £108 daily, and I’m pressured to come to the office three days a week, only to sit alone with headphones on and work.”
