SAIL Full Form is Steel Authority of India. SAIL is one of the biggest state-owned steel manufacturing companies in the world which is headquartered in New Delhi, India. It is among the top-notch steel manufacturers in the world. It is essentially a public sector undertaking that trades publicly and is majorly owned by the Government of India. SAIL is presently the 24th biggest steel manufacturer in the world. It presently owns and operates 5 integrated steel units at Rourkela, Bokaro, Bhilai, Durgapur and Burnpur and total 3 special steel units at Durgapur, Bhadravathi and Salem.
It operates a Ferro Alloy plant situated in Chandrapur. In order to globally expand its presence, the company is undertaking a great modernisation programme that involves building of new facilities and upgrading the existing ones with major emphasis of the incorporation of state-of-art technology. The company also operates Centre for Engineering and Technology (abbreviated as CET), R&D Centre for Iron & Steel (abbreviated as RDCIS), SAIL Safety Organisation (abbreviated as SSO), and Management Training Institute (abbreviated as MTI).
The company has entered into major joint ventures such as the NTPC SAIL Power Company Limited (abbreviated as NSPCL) which is an engagement between National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (abbreviated as NTPC) and SAIL which is in furtherance of the management of power plants at Bhilai, Durgapur, and Rourkela with a total capacity of 314 MW. Another joint venture is between the Damodar valley Corporation and SAIL created in the year 2002 for the management of a 302 MW power producing station at Bokaro Steel plant. Also, SAIL entered into a joint venture with M/s Jaiprakash Associates Limited for setting up a 2.2 MT slag cement plant in Bhilai.
