Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
HAL Full Form is Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. HAL refers to a state-owned defence and aerospace company headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The company is managed by the Indian Ministry of Defence. It is majorly engaged in the operations relating to the aerospace industry including assembly and manufacturing of aircraft, airport operation, navigation, and other related areas. It created the first-ever military aircraft in entire South Asia. It is presently engaged in the design, assembly, and fabrication of jet engines, helicopters, aircraft, and their spare parts.
It has many facilities operating in India and has established manufacturing units in major cities such as Koraput, Kanpur, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Nasik, Korwa, and Bangalore. The HAL has been actively engaged in collaborating with domestic and international aerospace agencies like Boeing, Airbus, Sukhoi Aviation Corporation, Israel Aircraft Industries, BAE Systems, Dassault Aviation, Rolls-Royce plc, Tupolev, the Indian Space Research Organization, and the Indian Aeronautical Development Agency among many others.
HAL has developed many in-house products and a few of them have been mentioned below: (1) Fighter aircraft: Tejas, which is a light combat aircraft; Su-30MKI, which is co-developed with the Russian corporation, Sukhoi; AMCA, which is the country’s indigenous stealth fighter and is presently under development. (2) Helicopters: Dhruv, which is an advanced Light Helicopter; Rudra, which is an Attack helicopter; Light Utility Helicopter, which is under development, etc. (3) Trainer Aircraft: HAL HTT-40, which is a basic trainer; HPT-32 Deepak, which has been in service for about 3 decades.
(4) Passenger and Transport aircraft: Saras, which is part of the collaboration with the National Aerospace Laboratories (abbreviated as NAL); Indian Regional Jet (abbreviated as IRJ); and HAL Multirole Transport Aircraft, which is part of the collaboration with Ilyushin Design Bureau. (5) Gliders: Andhra, which is a training glider; Rohini; and HAL G-1, which is one of the oldest in the inventory. (6) Unmanned Aerial vehicles: PTA Lakshya; NRUAV; Rustom-H, etc.
