Bihar Agricultural University

BAU Full Form is Bihar Agricultural University. BAU is an autonomous institution functioning the Bihar State Government and was established in the year 2010 under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (abbreviated as ICAR) located at Sabour in the Bhagalpur district of the State of Bihar. The primary reason for the establishment of BAU in Bihar was the rich water and soil resources, along with climactic conditions, that support the the agricultural production of a diverse kind.

The area of operation of BAU consists of 25 districts in the State including Aurangabad, Banka, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Jehanabad, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Arwal, Araria, Bhojpur, Gaya, Khagaria, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Munger, Nawada, Nalanda, Purnia, Patna, Sheikpura, Saharsa, Supaul and Khagaria districts. The university is aimed at catering to the needs of what is often known as the grain bowl of the state. The headquarters of the university are situated at the Sabour Campus of Bihar Agriculture College, which is the oldest agriculture college in the State that is actively involved in the conduct of research activities on issues relating to farmers and transfer of technology.

 

BAU is involved in Research and Extension engagements in agriculture. With the objective of extending the University’s research to farmers, the university has entered into an agreement with the World Development Foundation for the purposes of implementation of a project on “Agriculture Knowledge Dissemination System”. The project is aimed at imparting educating farmers with the help of video conferencing and ICT system for better livestock and agriculture production.
