Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Biography:
Aishwarya Rai was born in November 1 in 1973, Mangalore, Karnataka into a traditional south Indian family. Her father Krishnaraj Rai was a marine engineer and Vrinda Rai is a writer. Aditya Rai, who is an engineer in the merchant navy, is her one and only elder brother. Ash as she is fondly called, attended the Arya Vidya Mandir high school in Santa Cruz,Mumbai . Aishwarya Rai joined Jai hind College at Churchgate for one year, and then moved to Ruparel College in Matunga to finish her HSC studies. She had aspirations of becoming an architect, but there was something better destined for her. She is multilingual and can communicate in several languages, including her mother tongue Tulu, as well as Hindi, English, Marathi and Tamil.
While pursuing her degree in architecture, Ash began modelling. This green-blue-eyed beauty appeared in commercials for many prestigious firms; the ones that brought her into the limelight were the garden sari and the Pepsi ad. Aishwarya Rai’s next Tamil film Jeans, which was also an entry to the Oscars won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award. In 1999, Aishwarya Rai stormed Bollywood with hits like Taal and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, where the latter fetching her Filmfare Best Actress Award.
In 2000, Aishwarya’s Tamil film Kandukondain Kandukondain, saw a good turnout. Aishwarya Rai played as Shahrukh Khan’s sister in Josh and then played his lady love in Mohabbatein which won her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. In Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Aishwarya Rai Bachan was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas (2002), Aishwarya Rai played with Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, which turned out to be an instant blockbuster. It also received a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival. Aishwarya Rai Bachan won the Filmfare Best Actress award. In 2003, Asihwarya Rai acted in a Bengali film Choker Bali based on a novel by Rabindranath Tagore which was nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival.
With her prominent success many prestigious Hollywood projects lined up for release it is impossible to ignore this Indian diva in international scenes. The year 2004 saw Aishwarya Rai Bachan in her first English film, Bride & Prejudice, an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. In 2006 Provoked, which was based on a real episode of domestic violence, won critical acclaim. The other English film, The Last Legion, did not do so well. Aishwarya Rai Bachan had two films out in 2006. Umrao Jaan with Abhishek Bachchan failed to do well while Dhoom 2 with Hrithik Roshan was a big hit. In 2007, Aishwarya Rai Bachan acted with Abhishek Bachchan in Guru, based on the industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani and it was successful. Jodhaa Akbar, released in 2008, in which Aishwarya Rai Bachan acted the part of Jodhaa Bai with Hrithik Roshan was average.
The sequel to Sarkar, Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj, in which Aishwarya Rai Bachan plays a CEO alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, is said to be one of her best performances till date. Her films released in 2010 Mani Ratnam’s Raavan with Abhishek Bachchan and Asihwarya Rai Bachan is going strong with Endhiran with Rajnikanth, along with Action Replay with Akshay Kumar and Guzaarish, in which Aishwarya Rai Bachan will play Hrithik Roshan’s nurse.
